The principal role of a Notary in England and Wales is to provide independent proof of documents, transactions and facts to the satisfaction of authorities overseas. This involves careful checking and drafting and typically covers such work as:

  • Certifying copies of academic qualifications
  • Certifying copies of passports and other documents
  • Attesting powers of attorney and other documents for use in countries throughout the world
  • Sponsorship documents
  • Documents for foreign adoption applications

Appointment Requirements


The responsibilities of a Notary Public are to:
1  Establish and confirm the identity of each client.
2  Check that the Client has capacity and authority to enter into the transaction
3  Ensure that the client understands the transaction and wishes to be bound by it

PLEASE ENSURE YOU BRING THE FOLLOWING TO THE APPOINTMENT
- Evidence of your identity (e.g. a current valid passport and proof of your current address  (e.g. a council tax bill, bank statement or utility bill no older than 3 months old
- (If applicable) the grant of probate naming you as executor, a power of attorney authorising you to act on behalf of another or company, a company resolution authorising the transaction
-If the document is in any language other than English it may necessary to obtain a translation.  This should be discussed before the appointment.
